We spent a beautiful day in Tellico Plains this past weekend. Tellico Plains is a town in Monroe County, Tennessee. It is an entrance to Cherohala Skyway and the Cherokee National Forest. Some fun activities are hiking, picnicking, scenic drives and vistas, and dipping your toes in the water. We started our day with a short hike nearby.

Conasauga Falls
Round trip this trail is around 1.3 miles. It was a fairly easy trail for us, a bit of scrambling over rocks closer to the waterfall, but I was able to handle those with a baby in tow. We had the waterfall to ourselves and found a spot to sit and enjoy the sites and sounds. Heading back to the parking lot is all up hill, we had to take a couple of breaks to catch our breath. To get to the trailhead, you’ll want to drive on Witt Road until you see a sign directing you to Conasauga Falls. This road does not appear on Google Maps. You’ll drive on this road a few minutes and then come to a parking area at a dead end. The trail starts to the left of the 170 sign post.

Bald River Falls
No hiking required. Bald River Falls is located on the road so it is easily accessible whether you want to drive by or park next to the falls and walk across the bridge. There is also a hiking trail here, but it was roped off when we visited.

If you continue past Bald River Falls, you’ll find several spots for picnics by the river. There are also some vault toilets at the picnic areas. We stopped at the Walnut Grove Picnic Area, it wasn’t crowded and had plenty of shade with easy access to the water. On a hot day, the water would feel great for a quick dip, but it was a bit too cold this weekend!

Until next time,
Hannah
Nothing like a siling baby and beautiful scenery!
